The idea was to start from a fresh system. 2 Back-ups were made to be sure.

After a factory reset the pasword has been changed. (as is needed)
After a backup restore the password is not valid anymore.  
(did the above 2 lines twice)

Is the password changed to the password in the backup?  

(latest FW and zip backup)

Password is not saved in the backup. Software factory reset is not resting the admin account, it stays as is. Hardware factory reset will set the admin password to the default one.

Clear 

hardware reset -> admin admin -> works
change to other password -> works

restore back-up  -> freshly given password does not work anymore 
what could be the problem?

freshly taken backup  and using ZIP
