802.1X network authentication
#1
Hello,

One of our clients is requesting 802.1X network authentication compatibility for the LMs we use in their buildings. To meet their security requirements, the LM must be able to authenticate itself on a wired Ethernet network using 802.1X (typically EAP-TLS or PEAP via a RADIUS server).

After inspecting the LM's file system, I did not find any trace of wpa_supplicant, nor a configuration file such as wpa_supplicant.conf. This suggests that no 802.1X supplicant is currently installed on the LM.

Would it be possible to compile and install wpa_supplicant on the LM’s distribution to enable 802.1X support on the Ethernet interface? If so, could you please provide the necessary ipk files for installation?

Additionally, if the LM is connected to the client’s network through a managed switch, can you confirm whether it is generally the switch that handles the 802.1X authentication in such scenarios, meaning the LM itself would not need to perform any authentication in this case?

2024 firmware supports it: System config - Services - 802.1X EAP-TLS.

Usually all network devices must be authenticated to communicate.
