Transient protection of modbus
#1
Hello everyone.

Im in the sad situation, that my wisers modbus 485 connection seams to have been fried by the transient voltage of a lightning.
I think the transient has been induced from the surronding cables.

Now the insurance, are about to change the wiser, but in the future I would love to protect my installation against the same situation.
So I wondered if it is possible to mount a varistor accross the modbus terminals and earth?

A complete lightning protection circuit has extra components in addition to varistors. There are some ready-made protection devices but we haven't tested any of them.
