Active color and Inactive color in Appearance Setting

Hi,
I added a switch widget. There are ON and OFF State. I can change color and background of both ON and OFF state. What is the difference between active color and Inactive color in Appearance Setting and ON and OFF State's color and background ?
I changed active color and Inactive color in Appearance Setting and i can't see a difference.
