LM ambient gesture sensor

Hi,
I need somehow explained the gesture philosophy of LM Ambient.
In "operating instructions" pdf it appear some info (see attached )
But in manual of LM ambient "gesture sensor config" I can set only 5 gesture, and "Preset selection gesture – Left/Right or Up/Down movement".
Please make a little explanation of maximum number of gesture that can be configured, and how it works, because that two information from the  manual and operating instructions are somehow contradictory.

for now you can choose two ways on controlling over gesture sensor - Up/Down or Right/Left. We cannot distinguish all these gestures together because the hole in the enclosure is too small. And bigger hole would look ugly
