Happy New Year...  

Take the following example,  you have a light,  its a switch on a motion sensor.  You only want to show whether that light is on or not given that this could mess with the motion sensor.  The switch widget requires both the on/off and status object. 

Another example of where this could be used is with lights that are on a timer.  You want to see them but there is no need to change them because they are controlled by an timer.
