Using the LM5 Dali as a Gateway to Comission Lunatone Balasts - managementboy - 18.12.2018

Hi!

I have bought two Lunatone Dimmers (https://www.lunatone.com/produkt/dali-4ch-led-dimmer-cv/).

To configure the devices I need to use the Dali Cockpit software. As far as I understand it uses Modbus to configure them. But I really have no clue.

Can I use the LM5 Dali gateway or do I need to buy the USB dongle?

Cheers!!!

Depends on what you need to configure. Standard DALI features can be set via scripts. If ballasts have some manufacturer-specific setting then you need an external commissioning device.

so, if I read this correctly, all commands here: http://openrb.com/docs/dali.htm
can be set via scripst. Anything else needs the USB dongle?

The gateway itself can send any kind of DALI command. The thing is that manufacturer-specific commands are not documented so you would not know what to send Smile

is there a Sniffer I could use to capture the software commands? COM interface?

Hi, I a lot worked with DALI (Please take in mind now existing DALI protocol version 2 - possible connect different devices as inputs, thermal sensors, etc. directly to DALI line. Compatibility with v.1 depends from producers and how old is device with DALI v.1 (which commands are available)). My recommendation - you need DALI USB device for startup configuration (DALI device addressing) and testing. Later you can use LM devices with DALI interface. Just scanning DALI line you will find your previously addressed devices, and after start scripting Smile
I have Lunatone USB standard, but for it I need additional DALI power supply. I recommend to buy Lunatone DALI USB with 30mA integrated power supply.

Hi Alex! thank you

But I hope the guys from OpenRb can help me out, as I don't want to spend 200€ on a USB device I will only use once.

When I scan the bus with two Lunatone LUNATONE 89453832-HS on the bus it only finds one device. See screenshot.

I can provide access through Teamviewer / ssh if needed.

Did you run scan with addressing?
If you have RC1 firmware you need to update DALI package. Don't forget to reboot after package update.

Amazing!... I deleted the old scada-dali package, installed the new one and restart. Scan works like a charm!
