Start and stop trend sampling with an object

a customer asked me if there is a way to sample some values but only if some conditions occur (for example, they want to sample only if some machines are on).

Is it possible?

 for me it's useless, but he keeps requesting this feature.

This is only possible with graph in visu. You must log this object and then use it in graph.
